Stewards subsequently held the all clear and interviewed the starter Mr. Andrew Tutt who advised that in his opinion the greyhound needed assistance to be placed in the box. Once placed in the box, the greyhound was heard being unsettled. After considering the starters evidence and after reviewing the video, stewards were of the opinion that 2 Flying Deb had every opportunity to jump with the field and as such declared 2 Flying Deb a starter. Stewards interviewed connections of 2 Flying Deb regarding box manners. Trainer Mr. Trevor Peck stated that 2 Flying Deb has never stayed in the boxes before, however the only thing that could have contributed is that when 2 Flying Deb raced last start at Canberra on 17/08/08 over 530m, the lids didn’t open when the lure went past and all the greyhound were required to be taken out of the boxes and undergo vet examinations before being put back in. After considering all the evidence, stewards advised trainer Mr. Trevor Peck that 2 Flying Deb would be required to perform satisfactorily in a trial for failing to pursue the lure, under NRR 69 (1) (b) and is stood down from racing at Canberra for a period of 28 days. Trainer Mr. Sheather said it was the first time that his greyhounds had been checked for pulse rates and couldn’t offer no real explanation, except that both greyhounds are generally excitable. He further stated he hasn’t changed any of there diet or training and was mystified of their elevated readings tonight. Mr. Sheather was advised to bring it to his own vets attention for advice, however stewards would be monitoring his greyhounds in the future. Mr. Sheather was told that his explanation would be noted. Steward in charge Scott Matthews
